My system is running on AMD 450MHz with 131 MB ram and win 98 SE and my programs crash frequently. The most frequent is IE. should i switch to win ME? which operating system is more stable... ME or 98SE. Also can i run all programs that run on 98 on win 2000?

This sounds identical to an issue that I was having. Is this a PC that you built or added a lot of non original hardware to an exsisting PC? I stripped an old computer of mine and put in an AMD 400, 128 ram, new HD and Video. I was getting the same crashes, mainly IE, and I determined that it wasn't the OS but rather a configuration conflict with some of the hardware. As far as which is a better OS I have never heard any positives about ME, if you want a good stable OS go to Win2000 Pro. You have the stableness and security of NT technology with the plug and play of 98.
Q256850 - Error Message: An Exception OD Has Occurred at VXD VMM(0H)+00005B01 0028:C0006B01 I don't know if this is one of the error messages you've been getting but it is specific to AMD processors and might be worth looking into at the Microsoft Knowledge Base. If you want stability I would go with answer 1 and go to Win2K. You can test your hardware and software before installing the program. Put the Win2K disk in the CD-ROM drive and type: (assuming your cd is the D drive) \I386\winnt32.exe /checkupgradeonly. Win2K will check you hardware and software and give you a complete report on any possible conflicts.
