WIN Emulation in MACs

How do you configure a MAC (OS 9)use it in WIN Emulation mode? How does this effect your applications (eg Quark Express) when running in this mode?

WIN Emulation in MACs

by tonydee In reply to WIN Emulation in MACs

There are 2 programs that I know of which emulate the Windows environment on a Mac: Virtual PC and Soft Windows. I use Virtual PC (VPC) on a G3 Firewire PowerBook with OS 9.2.

The Windows environment runs slower than on a Intel box but it gets the job done. I use it to run MS Project on my Mac.

Also, since VPC is an application, you can switch between the Mac OS and VPC just as you would between say ... Word and Excel.

VPC runs pretty smoothly on my G4, what i did
was to make sure to give the app at least 256
megs of ram. Now running an application on it
productivly is another story. First i would
recomend you do not run a program like
Quark express in aemulated envirement. First
Quark for windows is buggy like all ****. and
running it ob vpc is even worse. The question
is why run a native mac program like Quark on
an emulater?

Another option is the Blue Label Power Emulator from LismoreSoft at http://www.lismoresoft.com. I've not checked that out (currently run RealPC from FWBSoftware) yet - there's a review on http://www.macwindows.com
