Win Explorer Folder View Fails To Stick

By daj3245 ·
When I click View/Explorer Bar/Folders and then click Tools/Folder Options/View/Apply to all folders, it works until I reboot and then I have to repeat the process. How do I make it stick?

I had similar problems.

For some reason, XP does not always update folder views when you close Windows Explorer using the "X" in the upper right corner.

Use File / Close after changing your folder view, and the change should stick.

I recommend that you reboot after making the change.

By default WinXp remembers customized setting for 400 folders. To increase that number you need to change the following registry keys.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:000003e8

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam]
"BagMRU Size"=dword:000003e8

The dword value I have set is for 1000.
000003e8 = 1000
000005dc - 1500
000007d0 = 2000
000009c4 = 2500
