Win ME start shutdown problem & scandisk

Man, this could be caused by several different problems....

I would tend to want to look at drive or file system problems first though...

I am a big fan of norton System Works.

System Works 2001 is WinME compatible, and will boot from CD, disk utilities can be run from there.

System works can be installed into windows, and Win Doctor can then be run to ensure windows/Registry/File System integrity.

Good luck....

You are most likely experiencing shutdown problems and difficulties with Microsoft's Scandisk because of exisiting problems with the disk subsystem or your file system or some combination of both.

in either case, microsoft's products have provenunable to solve the problem...

WinME was targeted at and marketed to the home personal network user, it can and will often cause problems when installed as an upgrade on exisiting older systems, not all mother board BIOS' are winME compatible, (which might be contributing to your problem)
not all hardware is WinME compliant, not all hardware device drivers are WinME compatible...WinME IS DIFFERENT FROM WIN9x

and finally, as an operating system, it is FAR LESS TOLERANT of minor system glitches than it's predecessor...

check your device manager for problem devices, and i still recommend Norton System works

Good luck with these systems, it seems that your experience with WinME has mirrored many that I have seen at the university.I RARELY RECOMMEND TO OUR STUDENTS UPGRADING OF EXISTING SYSTEMS TO WINME, I have seen systems upgraded to WInME rendered unusable....
