Win Me TCPIP Connectivity with Win NT

By xavier ·
I am trying to connect a Laptop running on Windows Me on a Windows NT existing network. I think I have configured correctly the TCPIP parameters and the host file of the Laptop correctly, but I still can not ping it from an other PC or ping an otherPC from it (I obtain "hardware error" when trying the ping operation)

The network card of the laptop is configured properly since it works when connected to the internet.

I used a class A IP adress on the laptop in order to be compatible with the rest of the network.

Thanks for any help.

With the laptop connected to your network, can you PING 127.0.0.1? If not then TCP/IP is not configured correctly.

What are the IP address, subnet mask and default gateway on the laptop? (Likely something like 10.0.0.1, 255.0.0.0, 10.255.255.254,respectively.) What about on another PC on your network? (Likely 10.1.1.1, 255.0.0.0, 10.255.255.254.)

And then there's the physical conenction. The first thing we usually try is to swap the patch cord at the workstation. Then trace it through tothe hub/switch. Any LEDs you can use for diagnostics? Again, try swapping patch cords, or swap with a "known working system".
