win nt, cd-writers, and Memory dumps

By Doer ·
I need some help, I installed a cd-writer in a win nt 4.0 service pack 5.0 pc and three days later, I started getting virtual memory dumps. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but, this didn't work.

I had a similar problem...

by TimMitchell In reply to win nt, cd-writers, and M ...

I installed a CD burner for two separate clients running Windows 2000 Pro. After installing the included software (EZ CD Creator), I got the blue screen of death (BSOD), indicating that the system was hanging up on the cdudf.sys file. I contacted the vendor, who advised that there was a fix in the works but it was not released yet. To temporarily solve the problem, I booted into safe mode (a luxury you don't have when using WinNT). I renamed the offending file, cdudf.sys, to cdudf2.sys. I got an error box at bootup indicating that the original file could not be found, but it did solve the problem of crashing the system.

If you are indeed using EZ CD Creator, check their website for a fix. If not available, and you are able to bootto a DOS prompt, rename the cdudf.sys file to cdudf2.sys. Again, you'll get an error dialog box upon startup, but the app will work OK and you shouldn't have the system crash anymore.

Good luck!
