Win NT Server 4.0

By fortune53 ·
I am installing a small LAN within my apartment with 3 computers:
Win '98 machine
Win ME machine
Win NT server.
Win 98 and ME machines are in a workgroup called "workgroup" and the Win NT server is on its own domain called "Andromeda". When trying to access the C drive on the Win NT system from the 98 workstation, I get a password prompt for IPC$. I didn't set or can eliminate this prompt from the NT machine. Can anyone offer some insight? Thanks

IPC$ is a share that NT creates for computers to use internally.

For networking purposes in your HAN, Why not put all three in the same domain (workgroup on the 9x machines). Then you will be able to browse and share between the machines.

Youwill also need to share out the folders and/or drives you would like to use from the 9x machines and vice versa to ease the use of these resources.

Good Luck

Your problem is that your Windows 98 and ME are not being autenticated on your PDC which in this case is your Windows NT Server, this 2 PCs need to "login" into the server that's why you get this message. Just join the Windows NT domain and you'll be able to see the shared folders with no problems.
Also make sure your shares on the Windows NT are correct.
If you need more information how to do that just e-mail me back,

Good luck,
@lberto
