Win XP/98 Dual boot

By Chester Peterson ·
I have a new Pc running Win XP and i want to dual boot with Win98 using a second hard drive. I know that if I had 98 on the system it is just a matter of installing the HD and then installing Xp on the new drive.
My question is how do I put 98 on the new HD and have a dual boot menu at startup?

To perform this operation,is tme consuming
First download utility Boot Magic with the serial number provided

Switch the jumpers on the hard drives, new hard drive should be Master and drive 2 jumper set to Slave

Boot Computer and press designated key to enter CMOS setup, open the configuration panel to drives and set the drives to Auto Detect or None to get drives detected, then go to panel to change the Boot Device sequence,Change to boot from CD Rom device first, exit and save changes

Now using a Windows 98 startup disk partition and format the drive using FDISK,then run Windows setup on new drive, once Windows 98 has been installed, check Windows Explorer to see if both drives are there, then re-enter to CMOS setup and change the boot device sequence back C,CDROM,A or order of preference

Now you have to use the Boot Magic utility to setup up dual boot menu, run setup and donot forget to note the serial number

The boot manager will work to create dual boot, but the drive letters will not change since the first drive is Windows XP,but you can change which OS to be listed first in boot menu

Boot iinto XP,click Start->Settings->Control Panel,double-click the System icon, click Startup and Recovery button and you will be given a panel to change which OS to boot first

Will Win 98 then be the C: drive, and XP the drive?
And I have a Boot magic that came with my partition magic. Is this the same program or will it work as well?

Hi
A Win98 has to boot from a FAT/FAT32 system file partition.
To add a Win98 to a running WinXP System:
1. Install the Win98 then Reinstall WinXP.It takes time and lost data.
2. Install the Win98 then Repair the WinXP boot sector. It is lessreliable and less time and no lost data.
3. Install the new hard drive as the primmary then make it the active it, partition it as FAT/FAT32, and then install Win98. Put back your WinXP hard drive as a master, activate it. Make your Win98 drive the salve then reconstruct the boot.ini file to make it point to the 2 hard drive.

4. Use a third party utility such as system commander, partition magic,
