WIN XP Home auto reboot on shutdown

I have a win xp home edition machine and for some reason it automatically reboots when you go for a shutdown. Can anyone shed some light on this issue. Basically whenever U have to shutdown you go to start>shutdown and then you need to press the power button until the machine is off or else it reboots automatically. It’s like a cycle that never finishes.

I have an H.P. computer, 9995 that essentially does the same thing as yours. Only intermittently, not all the time as yours seems to do. I also have home edition, xp. I have a current problem since I “attempted” to install a new Dell 1800 lcd monitor. When I got it hooked up and switched it on I got a screen that told me I had a problem possibly caused by having installed new hard or software. The O.s. would not boot up… Oh well, I still have the problem and can’t get into my computer. It’s driving me nuts but H.P. charges $30 to talk to me. Got any ideas about my problem?

The problem may be the POWER settings for your PC. Go to CONTROL PANEL and select POWER OPTIONS, under the Advanced tab, select the option that you wan to be done under the When I press the power… If all else fails, enable or disable (as the case may be) ACPI from the BIOS.

Your problem is due to an option called “Quick Reset”. You are able to adjust this setting under TweakUI. If you turn this off, you will not have that problem anymore. Hope this helps!

go there and download the powertoys, a.k.a. TweakUI and look through the setting and find quick reboot. change that setting to off. make sure if you dont know alot about settings, dont change anything else or you can wind up messing your whole system up.
