Win XP & NT4 LAN

By it ·
Good evening.
I currently run a small LAN (Cat5e) on NT4 with 35 Win98 clients. The main LAN usage is for users to connect to MS Access backend database & Internet / Email access over Cisco ISDN router. I am in the process of purchasing new PCs with Win XP pro preinstalled and wondered if anyone had any horror stories regarding this working OK with NT4 Server or MS Office97. Presumably they should work OK but I dont want to continue with the purchase only to encounter problems with connectionsto server etc. I am also hoping to intergrate the telephone system into the PCs in the near future if that has any bearing on it.
All info appreciated & thanx for your time..

Win XP & NT4 LAN

Last year I had 9 XP Pro machines running on a NT4.0 w/SP 6 install domain with 30 Win9x clients. I did not have any problems with the XP and NT server. I had no problems with log in scripts or mapped drives.

I not sure about Office 97, at the time we were running Office 2000.

Hope this helps.

I just went through an upgrade of Win98 to WinXP PRO. The only real problems arose during upgrade. If it says that existing programs may cause problems during upgrade, read this as the programs WILL DEFINATELY cause problems with upgrade. My advice, remove all Anti-virus before upgrade. Remove HP LJ 1100 printers before upgrade. Remove any other problematic programs before upgrade. Put in all SP's before reinstall of programs. No LAN problems w/XP remote control through messenger is SWEET.
