Win XP Pro hangs during boot up

By snoshuu ·
XP Pro has started hanging during boot up, between the Windows splash screen and the logon screen. Hang for over a minute with a black screen before eventually getting to logon screen.
No error messages, plenty of disk space and RAM.
Any ideas?

This is not a 'hang up' as such, what is happening is that the system is busy loading eveything that it has been told to load when the system is started, this happens when you have a shiiiiit load of things set to start immediately.

Check what is starting by going to Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> System Information >> SOftware Environment >> Startup Programs

If you have more than about 10 to 15 items in here then you have way too many. examine what each does and then turn off what are not needed.

I would also check what services are turned on by viewing the Services list in the same window, again turn off what is not needed.

As I stated in my original post, "has started hanging", in other words this just started after previously having no problems. I had stripped out all unnecessary programs and processes from start up long ago. Nothing new has been added. Before this problem started, I would be completely booted up, and ready to go in 30 secs or less.

Next time you reboot try starting using F8 and the opetion to load and approve each driver as it boots. This will help you to identify exactly what is taking so long time load.
