Win Xp Pro Net Send

By sabatogz ·
We are on a Single Domain in our Office, with a Win NT PDC (With Win's and DHCP) and a Win NT BDC. All client computers are Win 98se. My current computer is a Win XP Pro. Standard Huds. None of the Win98 Clients are having any issues using winpop.

Question:
When ever I do a Net Send Command, I get the following Error:

"An error occurred while sending a message to TLW.

The message alias could not be found on the network.

More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2273."

I have been working with MS Support, and they have no clue, but want me to re-install the OS. This is an unacceptable option.

Yes, The User TLW does exist on the network and can be winpoped from other workstations.

Try sending to the IP address rather than the name.

NET SEND [IP] [Message]

If that fails, try pinging the machine's IP address. If it fails it may be happening because of a different issue.

Make sure your client is accessing the WINS server. If that doesn't fix it, check the WINS db for any errors. The Win98 clients could be finding TLW by broadcasting. Are you on a switch while the others are on a hub?

Can you net send to computer names or IP addresses? Can you net send to other user names? Hopefully this will fix it or put you on the right track.
