On Saturday night I ran Registry Mechanic without any problem and then defraged the drive when I went to bed. Sunday morning I had a screen with the following message: “C0000218 the registry cannot load the drive (file)\systemroot\system32\config\software or its log or alternate, it is corrupt, absent, or not writable. Beginning dump of physical memory. Dumping physical memory to disk: 1 to 100.
The next screen reads: “Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: Systems32\Drivers\pci.sys. You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM select ‘r’ at the first screen to start repair.
The computer had Win XP Home Edition installed from the factory. I installed Win XP Pro from a disc I bought with the computer. There is no administrative password on the computer and when I try to use the Recovery Console from the CD it wants a password. I have also tried to run the recovery console from Win XP Home Edition with no luck.
Your thoughts please!!
If you have any ideas could you please send an e-mail to efjohnson@attglobal.net?
Thank you.
