Win XP reinstall DLL's or CDrom Drivers.

By wino460 ·
I have recently been having an issue where the cdroms on my system have an exclemation point through them and an error code 39 indicating a driver problem, however when I check the driver it is corect. uninstalling and reinstalling just return the exclemation point. I have swapped an old raid drive that is 8 months behind and the drives work great. I want to do a fresh install of the os as I am changing MB's and CPU but I need to copy about 4gig's of Documents & Pictures I have purchasd a DVD recorder to do this but I am sure I need the original drive with the data I want to back-up / save to have the cdrom issue fixed first. I also do not want to loose the data due to reinstall, I can not use SFc to repair critical winXP file as the cd drives are not accessable. is the a way to use safe mode with cdrom support to reinstall critical XP file or to install and back-up the data I need to save. or to install the recovery console to use at boot up???? e-mail me with any questions wino460@sbcglobal.net

The Windows drivers for CD drives do NOT come with the CD drive.

For "normal" CD operation, the IDE drivers for the chip-set on the motherboard handle the drives.

You can try removing ALL 3 IDE controller items from device manager and re-booting.

If that does not fix the problem, download and install the IDE driver for the motherboard.

For CD and DVD burners, the 'driver' for the burning functions is provided by the burner software.

Have you checked the raid drivers? Download and install latest chipset drivers.
Ran across this one a few months ago strangly it ended up being caused by easy CD creator 5 and or Media player. The person instaled a copy of easy cd creator and didn't like it after uninstalling this problem happened. I think its more caused by direct CD. Uninstall media player and install the latest version.

there is a ton of stuff not quite right with the machine. it will not load usb plug & play the cd & DVD. if I remove working usb storage (zip 100) it will not identify it on a hardware scan, and reinstall. If anyone is interested they can E-mail me or catch me on Yahoo, MSN, ICQ Instant messengers.
