win2000 ACESS DENIED HELP PLEASE!!

by leo . Updated 19 years, 2 months ago

Since a few days ago one our systems began having a problem with access denied errors. None of the icons on the desktop open when you double click them or when you right click and go to open. You can view the properties but opening doesnt work. You can use start>run to open any exe file. You can open the control panel through start but you cannot open anything in it without creating a shortcut on the desktop and copying the target into start>run. When i try to go into system properties by right clicking on my computer on the desktop and goignt o properties it says “ACCESS TO THE SPECIFIED DEVICE, PATH, or FILE IS DENIED”

i checked a few sites that led me to believe that it is a problem in registry but all the entries seem to be correct.

I ran antivirus and antispyware and they detect nothing.

The wierd thing is that when you double click on the icons on the desktop the system just doesnt do anything, no error msg, no nothing.

when you START> RUN and point to a .lnk it it says ACCESS DENIED like the error before.

any suggestions?
