My CEO has lost his local admin password.
It is a windows 2000 professional PC.
Formatting is not an option.
I’ve tried so far.
– Renaming the cmd.exe to logon.scr
Result : I Could launch the usermanager
but couldn’t adapt passwords or create new users.
– Tried copying the sam Database from a parallel 2000 installation over the original sam. (Created backup of original first of course 😉
Result: No go. At boot time gives some error stating that I should boot in Safe Mode.
– I am now trying a brute force L0phtcrack attack but estimates are this will take about 10 days so in the mean time I thought I will ask here.
Anyone an idea on how to recover or reset the administrator password given the fact that Ihave physical access.
