My setup:
Athlon 600 on Asus K7M MB, 128MB RAM, 40GB total disk space, Diamond Viper V770 (non-ultra) 32MB video.
I’m currently dual-booting my system between Windows 98 (1st ed.) and Win2kPro. Under Windows98, the video works perfectly. Under 2000, whenever the program I’m trying to run (usually a game, but some 3d software gives problems too) tries to use DirectX, it generates some program-specific error like “Can’t initialize hardware” or “No compatible hardware found”.
When I run DXDiag.exe, the graphics tests only run with software acceleration, and it says that hardware acceleration is not available. I know for a fact that it is, because it works fine in win98.
I have the latest BIOS for both Video and MB and have tried numerous drivers (detonator3 from NVidia, latest rev from Diamond (now owned by S3), the one from the Win2kCD, etc.).
I have DirectX8 installed now, and when I had 7, it was no better.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
