Win2000 client on NT error message

By jsarinana ·
These are the two event viewer error messages that I'm getting on one of my Windows 20000 prof. clients ? ? ?

1. WMI ADAP was unable to process the PerfProc performance library due to a time violation in the close function

2. The value named IRPStackSize in the server's Registry key LanmanServer\Parameters was invalid. The value was ignored, and processing continued.

any suggestions on what this is ?

Win2000 client on NT error message

by rynzeski In reply to Win2000 client on NT erro ...

For the 1st question update the Windows 2000 client to SP2. The second question requires a registry hack.

Running Regedit go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENT_CONTROL_SET\SERVICES\LanmanServer\Parameters\IRPStackSize

Modify the REG_DWORD to the DECIMAL value of "11".

Note:

When editing the registry make sure that you back it up first. With the registry hack solution I have applied this to over 10 Windows 2000 machine without any problems.

To add to the correct results from rynzeski:

1) Technet article Q266416 states that "This behavior can occur because either there may be a problem in the counter, or there may be a false-positive return value in the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Performance Library dredger. If there is a false-positive return value in the WMI Performance Library dredger, in certain situations, the dredger may incorrectly determine that a library is invalid even though the counter works correctly."
This is something Microsoft fixed in SP2 for Win2K. You can also make changes to the Registry if upgrading the service pack is not an option.

(please remove any spaces)

2) Technet article Q238316 states that "This behavior can occur if you set the IRPStackSize registry value (manually or programmatically) to less than 11 decimal. The IRPStackSize value is set to 11 by default in Windows 2000 and is enforced as the minimum setting."
Make the Registry setting change as posted.

Hope this clears things up.
