In Win 2000 doman i have a File server, i have a folder in file server on which i have full Control & i use to add & remove user & assign various permissions to users on this folder.

when i add or remove users it takes considerably long time to resolve user name. ihave checked for latency & seems to be no problem.

The commonest cause of slow Active Directory queries is DNS configuration issues. Make sure that the DNS settings are correct on the file server. Check the event log to see if there are any recorded when you query the Active Directory for the user list. Also, check the DNS server settings - use the event logs on the server that hosts the DNS server, and also run some checks against the server using the DNS snap-in in Administartive Tasks.

Good luck

IF DNS is running correctly, then look at your Global Catalogs. This will be where group membership is being handled.

Make sure that LSASS hasn't consumed all the available memory on the GC.
