Not knowing how your work station is set up, I would suggest . . .
256 Mb of RAM
32 MB video card
at least a 600 MhZ processor
Service pack 2 from Microsoft

it looks more like a problem of autocad.
go to www.autocad.com and klik on support resources.

AutoCAD 14.01 DWG Revision Patch (Locked version*) The AutoCAD 14.01 update included some minor modifications to the DWG file. It has come to our attention that some other CAD packages (specifically those based on certain libraries which attempt to reverse engineer our drawing file format) are having difficulty reading files saved using the AutoCAD 14.01 update. This patch alters the 14.01 DWG-write algorithm so that it saves its files in a manner recognized by these other CAD systems. Neither 14.01 nor this patch have any impact on DWG compatibility in an AutoCAD Release 14 environment. Only AutoCAD customers who exchange DWG files with otherCAD packages may need to download the patch.
