Win2k and Novell

By m_pact ·
We are getting ready to move to Win2k Professional on our work stations. Do I have to set up a user account for our Novell servers AND on each Win2k station, or is there another way around that??

The easiest way to do it is to setup a Win2k server.. you can automatically pull all the novell usernames into active directory using microsoft's services for novell. You can also push down software using Win2k's active directory..

also, this makes it much easier to switch over to Microsoft once Novell goes down the toilet..

If you use the lastest releases of Netware Client for Windows 2000 then you shouldn't have to worry. There is an opion for auto admin logon the workstation - which you could use but I don't recommend, or you could create a standard user object on the clients and make the client login as that. There asre also some options available on the client to create temporary users on the workstations that have the same user names as those in your NDS Tree/Bindary. The client works really well on Win2K andyou should have no real problems doing what you want.

The way we did it, was to create a local user on the workstation that was the same login name as on the Novell Server. Next, we gave the local user administrative rights to his local workstation so software from the netware server could install to the workstation.

When the user logs in using Client 32 version 4.8, his login name and password was the same so he authenticated to the Netware server and NDS, as well as logged into the local workstation.
