    Win2K and Office 97sr2

I am having a problem where Office97 apps, such as Word or Excel, are not responding when trying to open them. It’s a PIII 600/128mb and plenty of drive space. OS is Win2k/SPK 2. Workstation also has IBM’s client access, McAfee Virus software v4.5.1, Lotus Notes client v5.06. I am curious to know if there is an existing problem with Office 97 and Win2K.

    Thanks, TJ

There is no existing problem between these … I’m using Office 97 pro sr-2 and win2k pro at this workstations. No problems.

I recommend that you delete all the Temporary Internet Files, all *.tmp files, and see if the apps will run then. Runa Scandisk with fix errors enabled.

Even though you have space, sometimes a temporary file gets corrupted and interferes with other ms apps. Scandisk to check see if you are having other problems that may be caused by a hdd going bad (possibly).

Run defrag. If you?re using an office app that contains a lot of data that gets updated frequently it will write all over the disk and pretty soon response gets pretty slow or may even lock up. Check processes in task manager. If you?ve got some resource hog running in the background the office apps might be slow to respond. Try setting the application response to foreground application in performance options under system properties.

Have you loaded Visio on your machine?

I have found that the icons that Visio inserts into the office icon bars caused problems with Word/Excel.

Uninstalling both products, then installing office and visio (without the integration) worked for me.
