Win2K Corrupt Profile

I have a Tecra 9000 laptop with Windows 2000 & Office 97 installed on it. Since getting the laptop, the main users profile have corrupted to the point that it takes @ 5 – 7 minutes to open any of the Office programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc..)The programs will eventually open but not after 5 minutes. When this occured, I did notice that the icons on the desktop got rearranged. To fix the problem, I deleted the profile folder in Windows Explorer and had Windows recreate the profile by logging back in. This has happened 3 times in a 2 week span. Has anybody ever heard of this?
