Win2k corrupt

By computab ·
The error message was: Windows 2000 cannot start because the following file is missing or corrupt: winnt\system32\config\system. I have seen a solution to this for WinXP on Microsoft's site, but could not find it for Win2k, the solution is to replace the registry hives with the backup. Is this possible for Win2k? The system is Athlon XP1700, 512MB RAM, 40GB drive. Help please?

what files are listed?

I do not have an Win2k box to look at right now.
In the repair folder should be the reg hive backup files, they get placed there at the time the system gets built.

But because of this, there will be a lot of differences and programs will need to be re-installed if you choose this route. It is often best to just rebuild after backing up data.
