Win2k DHCP Server in NT Domain

    Locked

    by bobby gillette ·

I created all my scopes on my Win2k server, which was completed easily. Now I am receiving a message saying the server has to be authorized in AD before it will manage IPs. We are in the process of migrating, but we haven’t began our AD rollout as of today.

Is there any way to get around this obstacle and have my Win2k DHCP server handing out addressed prior to my AD rollout, or will it have to wait until I have the basic AD foundation servers in place?

    Any help is appreciated 😉

    Bobby

You need the first AD domain controller in place before you implement DHCP in Win2K. You should continue using NT4.0 DHCP untill you get the first DC up.

I would go ahead a take a small lead in faith. Promote that server as your active directory DOMAIN controller. That isn’t much work to with this. You can demote for nt4.0 as a bdc and promote your win2k server as a PDC using the command dcpromo.
If you don’t want to more forward that quick , use winnt 4.0 as your dhcp.
Although you can promote you win2k server as a bdc and see if active directory will work then , I ran in that mode for about 3 months with out any big problems. I few glitches appeared but was easy to fix.
