Win2k Domain Controller

We have lost or corrupted the local login password to our Win2K AD Domain controller, we can't login when we try to do a system state restore. Any good ideas?

What file system? If Fat32 partion boot using a DOS or Win 9x disk. Then delete the SAM file from the %systemroot%\system3config folder. If NTFS it's far more involved. If you need more help write again.

The Sam account needed is the original administrator account and password that was used at the time of DCpromo. Now if you renamed your administrator account after you DCpromo'd your Sam acount still remains administrator. I am not sure if a changedpassword will be reflected in the sam account. To find your password you can use software from winternals and it will allow you to change the password. Why don't you post the reason for needing to perform a system state restore as well. Perhaps yourproblem can be fixed without going to that extent.

The sys admin before me had not documented the admin account. Exchange 2000 eval was on the system- when removed we had a corrupted user & computer database. I used Winkey Software to reset the password. Am getting the Co. to buy another 2K server for redundancy. Thanks
