Win2K Event Log Disappears

By LIMiller ·
On one of our Win2K servers, viewing the application log causes the other logs to disappear from view!! I can view the other logs only once per try, as long as I don't start by viewing the app log, in which case I can't view any log. Also, for each access to the event viewer, I can only see a type of log (app, system) once. After that it disappears.

Any ideas on a cure for this will be appreciated!

First off, I'd check to see if there are any viruses on the machine.

Aside from that, your event log files might be corrupt.
To create new ones, go to Services, stop the Event Log service.
Go to C:\%systemroot%\system32\config
Move the *.evt files to another location.
Restart the Event Log service and cross fingers.

Thank you. The only modification to the answer is that I needed to disable the event service, then reboot the server to stop the service. It could not be stopped in the normal manner.
