WIN2k Hidden internet pathname files

By Yotraj ·
Last year I ran across an article explaining that Win 95 (poss 98 & 2000) creates a hidden file of all of the pathenames of places visited on the internet and that this file can get very large and could be deleted by changing attributes, then it's name, creating a new file with 0 bytes and then deleting the original. I wish I would have saved the article now because when I checked, sure enough, there it was! I'm not talking the History files OR the temporary internet files directories here. This was a hidden file that I believe rested in the root directory. I can't recall the exact file name OR the exact process to remove it. Can anyone out there help? Thanks!

if its hidden then you have to set windows to how hidden files.

iM ON 98, bear with me

You do this by opening "my computer" going to view on the menu, options of folder options, in there click the view tab, and make sure all files are set tobe visible.

Now that this is set go to start-->find-->file. look for an option to search the computer for files by file size. Make it something like ( > 1000K) greater than 1000 kilobytes. And search the HD for it. it should find it.

That's the obvious...the file I'm looking for CANNOT be found using Explorer! It is completely hidden from Windows....it must be found using DOS!

It seems you are talking about the Autocomplete feature. IE> Internet Options > Content. You can clear it there.
