WIN2K IP Issue

By rmrnet ·
Our 6 user WIN2K network has worked fine for about a month. All of a sudden print servers could not be printed to. We found we could not ping from the server to any device on the network. However, devices could ping to one another and back to theserver. We configured ip ports to the printservers and can print. NBSTAT reports com is established, loop back functions but ip only works one way. What is wrong with this picture?

Assuming you have done the obvious server reboot, something seems to have gone awry with your protocol stack. To find out what, you need a protocol analyzer. One I have used and like is found here:

http://netgroup-serv.polito.it/analyzer/

And, the price is right (FREE!).

I'm going to ask some obvious questions, because at one time or another we all overlook the obvious.
IP address static or assigned by DHCP?
What error messages are showing up in the System log in Event Viewer?
Is the Spooler service working?
IsTCP/IP printing service installed and working?
Were there any configuration changes (new hardware, software, printers, setting changes) that occured around the time things stopped working?
Can you ping the printers themselves?

Check your Duplex settings on your switch/hub. Set to auto or hard code to your network speed. Also, make sure NIC has most updated drivers. As a last resort, I would swap NICS. Your NIC may have failed.
