Win2k Login Screen

By pphomthi ·
Hi,

Is there a way to bypass win2k login screen. I forgot the password. I know that in win98, you can just hit cancel and it goes right into the desktop. I did not want to reformat yet, until I hear from you guys/gals. Thanks for your help!

No problem. Take a look at Microsoft Knowledge Base article 234562. "How to Enable Automatic Logon in Windows 2000". It explains configuration for both domains and workgroups. You will have to edit the Registry if logging on to a domain.

Hi
I take it that you can not login to make the changes already suggested. Most home users do not set a password for the administrators account. You can try this by logging in as administrator and do not enter anything for the password. This will not work, of course, on a domain login, but can be used on the local account login, if you are able to do so. Should the local administrator account have a password, there are other ways in. I am unsure as to what they are, but others here do know these methods.

I hope this helps.

I have a password reset program that you load on a floppy and boot the pc to it. It utilizes some linux commands to bypass the windows security and prompts your for a username and password that you would like to reset. After you choose the password, you can login locally with that account. I have emailed you the zip file..you will have to unzip it and load on floppy. Try it out and let me know what you think!
