Win2k modem installation conflict

By pauly4190 ·
I have a Zoom ISA modem. It is plug-n-play. Windows 2000 Professional is autodetecting the modem, looking for drivers which I have. The first time it comes back "unable to locate driver (disable?)", which I do. Then it detects the same modem again only when I feed it the same drivers poof! it takes. Now I'm stuck with an unknown device in device manager, which is just annoying.

Anyone else seen this problem? Gotta fix?

The best instalation is a clean one.make sure you uninstall the driver /modem software properly from device manager, check that no entry of the driver is in win.ini and reboot the system ,and install the driver, it seems to work for me most of the time.
Good luck

I've done this as well. Even reformatted over it once.

i would go into the device manager and select the device. Then go to properties and select drivers and update drivers. Then you would like to select drivers from browse list this will allow you to point it to the media that came with the modem. I have seen several modems that do this that also have built in voice synthesizers. This migh help you out

Sorry, no go there either. It looked like it was going to but then after restart it still autodetected a second modem! I think I'll replace it with another non ISA modem.

Thanks for everyone's input!
