Win2K Pro, The memory could not be read

I have installed a computer with Windows 2000 Professional and have installed the Service Pack 2. After usage of couple of days, an error message appear :

Explorer.EXE – Application Error

The instruction at “0x100179f9” referenced memory at “0x00000030”. The memory could not be “read”.
Click on OK to terminate the program.
Click on CANCEL to debug the program.

Question :
Does anyone have an idea of what cause the error ?
What are the solutions and\or the workaround ?
