Win2k pro & WinXP pro file sharing setup

By wup1 ·
Hi,
I have a Laptop running Win2k pro that I connect to a home router and on the same router connects a desktop running WinXP pro. How do I set up on my desktop WinXP pro so I can copy files from a folder on laptop Win2k pro to the drive on my desktop WinXP pro. Thanks for your assistance.

1. Enable File and Print Sharing on both machines
2. Ensure both are in the same Workgroup (see System control panel)
3. Create same user on both machines
4. Create shares for folders you wish to access.

Thanks p.j.hutchison... unfortunately my laptop with Win2k is a corporate pc setup to work in a Domain and if I change(only if I have local admin right) it to Workgroup I'll never be able to boot it again without the Administrator password. Any other alternate soulution, like using the ip address of the router port it's connected to...would be grateful.
