Win2k reading 260RAM when I have 512

By xsevenx ·
Bios read 512
slot0 - 256 133
slot1 - 128 133
slot2 - 128 133

I only have those three slots.
SO why does windows only recongnize 260mb?
Do i need to do anything special in win2k?

You do not have to tell Win2K anything about your RAM.

First - Where does Win2K say that only 260MB is installed?

Make sure that your motherboard actually supports mixed RAM sizes.

Make sure that the RAM is all of the same type and speed.
Reverse the order of the RAM in the sockets - check your MB specs first.

The most important point for RAM is the size and where you put it. You will have to check your motherboard manual to check weather it supports mixed RAM sizes and what combinations can be used.
Once you have done that, swap the RAM as nessicary, and it should work.

One other thing though!
WHY DO YOU NEED THAT MUCH RAM??
I once read that if your machine has more than 128Mb of RAM then it will only use the first 128Mb and ignore the rest. Weather this is true or not is another question.

Hope this helped.
