In reply to Win2k ‘Send To Desktop’ does not work
I know this is in the Registry, but I can’t find the right links for sure. I “might” be right with the following.
Ok, on my WinXP box, in the Registry (using Regedit), under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.DeskLink it has a Default value of:
CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}
Now, the Create Desktop Shortcut file is a .DeskLink file so that is why I looked that up.
The CLSID path takes me to here:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{9E56BE61-C50F-11CF-9A2C-00A0C90A90CE}
In the DefaultIcon folder under that location, the Default value equals:
C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe,-103
And yes, at that location in Explorer.exe is a folder icon (along with a mail icon you see).
So, what might have happened on your system is the Default value under the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.DeskLink key has been changed.
Open Regedit and go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.DeskLink and see what its Default value is. Does it match mine, or is it something else.
If it is different, 1st MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR REGISTRY!!!!!, 2nd go to that location and see what it says, then 3rd change yours to equal that location.
Log out, then log in, and see what happens!
hope this helps
