Win2k server inaccessable boot device

By www.junekey2000 ·
I have a window 2k server that I built from spare parts 2 yrs. ago. The processor failed so I just bought a used Compaq 866 Deskpro that I would like to put the hard disk into. When I placed it in the Desk Pro, I got a blue screen that says "inaccessable boot device." I know that it is looking for the old hardware. Is there a way to make Win2k server operate in the new system?

This is a common error message with Windows XP when you move your HD to a different computer. And I believe this also applies to Windows 2K.

Refer to MS KB 314082: http://tinyurl.com/5ks78

The fix is to reinstall Windows on top of the current one (or in-place upgrade). You may have to reinstall Service Pack depending on the CD that you use. You have to reinstall all MS updates. All your programs and data should be intact.
