WIN2k Servers

By cestelow ·
I have a WIN 2k server running active directory that is the domain controller. I have a second win 2k server that I want to join the domain as a domain controller also. When I try to have the second server join, it gives me an error message that the"network path can't be found". I have searched the micorsoft web site and tried all the fixes they have suggest to no avail. I can ping each server from the other server by IP address and computer name. I can ping the default gateway from each server and can also access the internet from each. Any sugguestions?

you should be sure the second server is pointed to the first DC as far DNS goes. you do have ADS installed on the second server I am assuming ? I know that with ADS if DNS is the slightest bit off it will not cooperate when installing new Computers to the Domain. let me know what you find because I am interested! tks!

How are you recieving internet access?

ICS or NAT?

If you have DNS running internally with ICS you will have conflicts!
If you have NAT running then you will have to remove any host records and PTR from your internal DNS server relating to your external NAT interface to allow resolutin internally or your second server will be trying to resolve name resolution from your NAT server using external DNS servers eg: (isp)

Try going to command prompt and do a NSLOOKUP to resolve name server SOA

let me know how it goes!
