Win2K Shutdown Problem

By dwayne.sealy@caribsurf. ·
I am running Win2K Pro on an IBM ThinkPad 770Z PII/366 with 128MB RAM etc, etc, my problem is that whenever I shut down Win2K (whether it is a shut down or restart) the system goes to a blank screen and stays there. Pressing the power button does nothing, so I have to resort to removing the battery and power supply.

I suspect that it is McAfee VirusScan 4.03 which has been given the OK to run on Win2K (subject to correction).

Any ideas??

I don't think it is the virus software. I have been using it win2k and laptops for a while, no problems. Sorry I can't help further, although perhaps its tring to go into a suspend mode rather than shutting down.

Our laptops do the same thing on shutdown but I don't think they do that on restart. Anyway, on our GW2k laptops we just have to push the power button for 5 seconds or longer to get the system to start backup. I think it has something to do with thepowersaving features but haven't looked into it because the users can just hold down the power button. Good luck.

Check to see if your McAfee is set to scan floppys on shutdown or any shutdown options for the anti-virus program. Turn em off and see if it changes.
Im running 2k on a thinkpad and have not run into the problem w/ Norton AV/CE 7.0.

Double checkyour power management options on the system too. Avoid hibernation... Hope this helps. SFO

I had the same problem since I installed a W98 soft.
You better update all your soft and peripherals and if it's not possible , remove the last thing you install to see if the problem persists

I thought that I had the problem you are talking about on my desktop (sorry didn't try it on laptop) but what I found was that it was taking an extremely LONG time (upwards of 45mins) to shut down. I ended up reinstalling Win2k (clean) and the problem never came up again. Probably not what you were looking to hear but hope it helps anyway.
