Win2K SRV SP2 w/ MS Proxy SRV 2

By Shanghai Sam ·
hi again,

it says in my Win98SE Proxy Authentication Required
HTTP 407 - proxy authentication required.

i'm using DSL PPPoE dynamic addressing & I have 2 NIC's installed
Win2k SRV w/SP2.
External NIC Public 169.254.211.21
Internal NIC Private 192.168.0.1
and PPPoE 64.229.195.79

win98SE client IP from DHCP is192.168.0.248

And my LAT on my Proxy server is from 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255
am I doing the configuration right? is this right?
and i'm only using 2 computers. 1 Win2kSRV & 1 win98SE.
this is my first time installing MS proxy 2. what did i miss???

And I also tried this on my win98SE Client DOS prompt:
C:\mspclnt> chkwsp32 /f after I press enter, it says this

Your credentials were not authenticated Client control protocol version MATCHES the server control protocol
I still can’t go online, please help.
Thank you
Skper

Win2K SRV SP2 w/ MS Proxy SRV 2

by ddsand In reply to Win2K SRV SP2 w/ MS Proxy ...

Try creating a user on the Proxy server using the same username and password used to log into the Win 98 computer with. Then in the properties of the Web Proxy, grant this user permission to use www.
FYI the client is not required unless you want to recieve POP3, SMTP, etc.. If so, in the properties of Winsock Proxy, grant the paticular user permission to use POP3, SMTP.
