Win2k Term Srv, terminal & local printe

by justin.dickon . Updated 23 years, 4 months ago

Hi,

I have an ongoing issue with Windows 2000 Terminal server (win2k server with SP3), an Ipaq terminal and local printers….

The senerio is that we have several terminals conntecting to the Win2k terminal server. Two of these have local printers on the parrallel printer port of the terminal.

The terminal server picks these printers up just fine after they have been setup by admin. But sometimes (seems to depend on which terminal is powered on in the morning) the server will swap the server created port number for the printers.

Eg. Hp 1200 gets TS001 on term01. Epson gets TS002 on term02. But when term02 starts the next morning, the server allocates TS001 as the printer port number. So any printing from term02 is sent to the printer on term01 and comes out garbled (wrong printer driver). The reverse also happens.

Is easy enough to fix, logon as Admin (with both terminal up and running), go to the printers folder and set the port number back to the proper terminal for each printer.

Just wondering if there is some “easy” fix to tie the printer to the port and to the terminal or some combination so that we don’t have to keep checking the port assignments…

Cheers
Justin
