Win2K wont read FDD

By elwin9 ·
Windows 2K each time you click on the floppy it wants to format it because it can?t be read. The disks work fine in another PC. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the hardware. It will even start up on a WIN98 startup disk. The thing is that if you click on the floppy with no disk in, it will have the same message. Windows is the culprit and is there a fix that?s not to dramatic.

All disk drives have what is called an asmith or angle at which the read head contacts the disk surface. Not all drives are equal nor is the software which is intended to establish the read/write timing. Therefore, it is possible that the disk drive is worn (out of pure alignment) or not responding to the win2k software as anticipated. You can try swapping out the drive to see if it helps. win2k runs a much tighter tolerance on drives than win98 which is why some drives that work fine with win98 fail under win2k. regardless, any disk that you write with win2k should be able to be read back under the same hardware in win2k or there is a driver or hardware problem.

I did swap with new cable and new FDD. Same problem.

Check the conflicts like these (IRQ 2F are between the com ports. try to disconnect devices like modem (which acts as another com port even though it is a card). IRQ 2F8 conflict goes away and floppy dirve will start working.

try this!
