    Sup all

My pc has 2 harddrives, one containing XP(primary) and the other one Vista. My idea is just to erase the harddrive where Vista is installed and add windows 7 Pro. XP shouldnt be affected by this?

Vista changes the boot loader sequence.. Read here:

I;m not sure about vista but XP Might be ok, I went from xp/ubuntu to XP/ubuntu/seven ultimate (going to remove XP soon) and xp was fine, it just shows up as a previous version of windows. I would expect seven and vista to handle the boot process similarly. My suggestion is either test on a different pc or back up your data and give it a try.

If you can’t boot XP, there’s always fixmbr…

If Vista put jump code in the MBR of the first disk, you can repair it from the XP boot CD:

and use fixboot on XP to remove the Vista boot strapper from it. When the pc restarts only XP bootloader will be visible and then I can safely format the harddrive where Vista is installed and add win7? I dont need to use fixmbr?

      Yea…

I dont know what to do. I have heard that uppgrades are not so good. Maybee i should try it out just delete the hardrive where Vista is installed. I mean the main boot properties are on XP hardrive , its the master harddrive.

we did upgrades here from our vistas to win7…but i do at least recommend back up first…everything…i’m not hugely confident with dual boots yet, so i can’t say how it would work out that way.
