    Win95 Chkdisk fails to run

When one particular Win95 machine shuts down, it often hangs. When rebooting, there is a message saying it cannot run Scandisk. “There was an error running Scandisk, or it was canceled. Run Scandisk for Windows as you may still have errors on your disk(s). Press any key to continue starting Windows.” Ctrl-C to exit to DOS and typing Scandisk works just fine, however, followed by a WIN. I can’t figure out why the automatically invoked Scandisk fails to run.

      Hi,

Does Windows have exclusive access to the drive or are there any other programs that might be using it?

      Regards,

you will need a 3rd party software ie Norton Utilities then a full scan of hard drive I believ it is called a surface scan. As well run a defrag this should take care of the problem. I believe that and reinstalling the system files are your only options.

But the system files are all present — since either
scandisk or chkdsk runs successfully from the dos prompt — but not when windows attempts to start it.
