Win95 DDEML.DLL replaced by oldr version

By alan.robinson14 ·
Starting Win95 and other times a window pops up stating
"The following file has been replaced with an older version. This file is currently in use and cannot be auto repaired"
Restarting, or starting in DOS mode and replacing DDEML.DLL with one from Win95 CD has no effect.
How do I get rid of this message.
Alan

Win95 DDEML.DLL replaced by oldr version

by yagar In reply to Win95 DDEML.DLL replaced ...

Found this on the Web

DDEML.DLL Error

The following system files have been replaced with older versions by a program you recently ran. These files are currently in use and cannot be automatically repaired. Windows may not run correctly until you exit and restart Windows so that these files can be automatically repaired. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DDEML.DLL

NB : The filename above maybe different on your computer. After you restart you receive the error again.

Cause

This issue can arise if a program you install replaces a system file on your computer but does not properly update the system file information in the registry.

Resolution

Try method 1 first, then method 2 if method 1 fails :

Method1
Boot into MS-DOS, rename the dll file effected in the windows\system directory. Copy the a replacement dll file from windows\sysbckup. Restart to see if the problem has been resolved. If not move onto Method 2.

Method 2
Again rename the dll file in the windows\system directory. Extract a new copy of the dll file from the windows95 cab files. (for DDEML.DLL this could be cab numbers 3,4 or 5 depending on the installation materials.(ie version of Windows) (NB: Luckily we have plenty of other Windows 95 machine we canrip the file from to resolve the problem, and save the extraction process.)
