Win95 Japanese version

By kami ·
Hi Everyone,
I just purchased the folloving system to run Japanese Windows 95
It's specs are as follows:

IBM
PC300GL Desktop Computer
Model Number 6282-66U
Intel Pentium 200MMX
64MB RAM
2.5 GB Hard Disk
CDROM
3.5" Floppy
No OS
The problem I have is the OS installation crashes half way through, always at the same point with an 'unable to extract cab files due to incorrect driver error' message. After repartioning and reformating the hard drive, I have used 6 different boot disks to attempt the install and four have failed at the same point while two were not even able to get to the GUI portion of the install (interestingly enough, these two failed with the same error message immediately following the scandisk routine). So I put it to you, what am I, three techs, and a systems analyst at work missing.

Thanks for the Assist

Many times this is caused by an anti-virus program. If there is one, disable it. Also,
go to MircoSofts' Knowledge base Search at:
http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp?fr=0&SD=GN&LN=EN-US, and look at article:
Q129260 - Windows 95 Setup:Description and Troubleshooting Steps.

This will give you several more items to check and will give you other articles that may help you.

Good luck.

I truly doubt the hard drive partitioning has anything to do with it. What I would do if you is, get a hold of another copy of the OS you're trying to install and give installing that one a try for there is no telling if you have a bad install discor what not. Good luck.

It appears that you have a bad memory strip. Replace the Ram is a good known strip and give it a try.

3 major thing can be...

1.- Bad memory dimm or simm
2.- The cab files are corrupted (cd rom)
3.- You have a virus (nothing new or strange to have a virus on a new machine...)
