Win98 freezes on network access

by derek_grunewald . Updated 25 years, 7 months ago

I have a relatively new network that supports about 20-25 people. I’m using cat5 cabling and running an NT4 file and print server. I also have a WAN between 2 other offices using a PPP T1 connection. Occasionally, when users access the local server through Windows Explorer, the system hangs and requires a reset to get back online. This sometimes happens when switching between domain servers. It seems to be a relatively random occurance and happens at different stations throughout the day. I was told by a friend that it could be b/c of the packet size being sent through the network. If that’s the case, how can a check it/change it? I’ve tried updating the NIC driver, but that didn’t seems to help. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated….

Thanks
