Win98 Laptops locked out on Win2k server

By thompson ·
I have 4 users using Win98 on laptops that have their accounts locked out about every other day. They are not disconnecting from the network at night, but do log out. When they log in the next day, we have to reboot the laptop and unclick the account disabled box in Win2k server. Why?

This looks like it might be related to your problem. Microsoft says they have a fix for it.

According to the FAQ Q271496, this should only happen if more than one server or domain is used. We are on a single server/domain system, and users can be locked out even if they are currently active on the network. In which case, we have to reboot the laptop before the box on the server will be marked as disabled. The file they suggest to be upgraded is older on their systems, but the problem does not meet MS description of the problem.
