Win98 loses mapped drives on W2K Server

By orcsattheg8 ·
I'm running a 2000 domain without dhcp. I have several 98se machines accessing the domain and some but not all lose their mapped network drives if users have not accessed them recently. Any ideas? Thanks

Win98 loses mapped drives on W2K Server

some but not all? does rebooting fix the problem? yes? check the NIC speed and duplex mode of the ones with the problem vs the ones without. check the wiring...can you swap ethernet patch cables and wall jack connections to give the ones with the problem some known good wire...there is no setting i know of to cause/fix this problem in the os's. i'd look for problems with the network connection, to restate: try locking down the nic's to 10MBs/half duplex, and/or check the wiring...

98 su*ks but if you have to live with it. Don't worry about users mappings getting disconnected. Create a logon script(logon.bat) in the \\server\netlogon share. set everyones logon script to logon.bat. Use Net use to create the mappings automatically. When a user logs on, they will always have the mappings.

Example script below.

@echo off
Echo Welcome %username% to the CXXGFD Domain
net use u: \\server\users
net use p: \\server\public
net use i: \\server\installs
