Win98 + Win95

By dean.morris@grahambrown. ·
I am currently running a machine on Windows 98. I have several partitions on my harddrive(2GB Partitions) and would like to make a dual boot machine(WIN98+WIN95). Will I need to Re-install Win98? I would like a boot option at start-up, is this possible?

Thanks

No problem. Install Windows 95 and ensure you use a different directory for the Windows 95. This is the same with all Microsoft Products including NT.

As long as you use the other partition you'll be just fine. To get the boot option at start up, you may want to use System Commander or a similar app to choose which OS to boot to.

According to Microsoft, this cannot be done. 98 is considered an "upgrade" of 95, not a different OS. If you install 95 first, and then try to install 98, 98 will find 95 (no matter what partition you put it on) and only allow you to do an upgrade. If you install 98 first, and then try to install 95, I believe that 98 will not allow you to install 95 at all.

First of all, you have to create two partitions (an active primary partition and an extended partion from your 2GB HD. Make it 1GB each partition)and you'll have C: and recognized. Install Windows 95 on the "active" primary partition (C:). After installing Windows 95, then install Windows 98 on the extended partition (D:). Window 95's boot.ini (boot option) will be updated upon Windows 98's installation.

OK, number 3 is correct, you can't just "do" it. Look here for why:

The good news is there's a workaround. See here:

Good luck!
