All right, I’ve got a simple problem with no logical answer. I recently bought a new processor for my computer, I’ll state the specs in a minute. Ever since I’ve had this processor installed, I’ve been unable to uninstall Windows 98 SE. The installation program fails at various stages of progress.
This installation is taking place from a clean, new from the box copy of Windows 98 SE that I had already installed on this system successfully before buying the new processor. The hard drive was clean, freshly formatted, and showed no errors of any sort from scandisk, even with a surface check. All of this is taking place on the following system:
– ABit BE6-II Motherboard (with latest BIOS update)
– Intel Pentium III 800 MHz processor (133FSB, 256k cache) which replaced the old Pentium III 600 with the same bus speed
– 128 megs of memory (Micron, I believe)
– Voodoo3 3000 AGP video
– The BIOS on the motherboard were manufactured by Award
Any ideas? I’ve tried every singledifferent sort of installation configuration, there are no read errors from the CD-ROM nor write errors to the hard drive. And on top of that, I’ve gotten it to work before on the exact same system with a different processor.
Whoever can tell mehow to fix this should be worshipped by co-workers and computer owners worldwide!
